Christmas was approaching when knitting first entered my thoughts. Pondering what to offer my parents as a gift under the tree, I started thinking about making something by hand. Wouldn't it be nice to surprise my dearest with something special?
My German grandmother Erika, we called her Ami, and my mother taught me the very basics of knitting and crochet when I was a young girl. I adored anything that occupied my hands. It was a love that stayed with me and grew into a passion I cannot imagine life without now.
Countless stitches are forever connected to some of my most cherished memories. Welcoming my nieces and nephew into the world, travelling around Norway, going to Brazil for the first time, marrying my best friend, building friendships and being part of a community. What all of these events have in common, however big or small, are the clicking of needles never far away.
The first knitted gift I made was a soft, warm blanket for my parents. I bought a kit that included the needles, yarn, and a pattern. I wouldn't have known where to start otherwise. YouTube was my teacher and I have a lot of gratitude for those who create lessons and tutorials and provide such valuable resources to anyone seaking to learn. Please enjoy some photos I dug out from eight years ago, Christmas 2015, when I was just a little knitting baby.
I welcome you to join me on my journey from knitting for family to knitting for anyone who wishes to gift something handmade and special to those they love. I will share updates and knitting rambles in this space and update my shop when I've made enough to share.
